Stand up paddle boards (SUPs) are becoming quite popular these days--and its easy to see why. The sport is intriguing. Many people are pleasantly suprised to find out that it offers enthusiasts a supreme mix of core exercise, balance training and fun in a variety of ways.
In the world of SUP you'll find everything from recreational flat water paddling to high stakes racing, things like SUP yoga and surfing. Usually people unexpectedly fall into the sport--they tried it while they were on vacation in Hawaii or at a resort in Mexico, they see people doing it around where they live and then finally get curious enough to go looking for it. This is where it gets exciting and can be a bit overwhelming at first. Picking a board is something I have helped numerous people with and there are some important things to keep your eye out for when shopping for a board.
Here is the Joy Ride by Boardworks SUP in action. Easy to handle and transport, it's extremely stable and easy to maneuver in the surf. Try one today.

'Setting Your Course For the Future' was the motto for the week of September 19-24th. Fastlane Sailing Center and Hobie kayaks had the honor of outfitting the VA with 40 plus kayaks to put on the beach for the National Veterans 3rd annual Summer Sports Clinic. Hundreds of people come together for this five day event which includes sailing, surfing, olympic sports, biking, and our own personal favorite, kayaking on mission bay. Each day two teams arrive at the Mission Bay Yacht Club in the morning, get set up in Hobie kayaks then head out for a tour around sail bay. The teams then come back and have some time to get pumped and taunt the others with their team haka dance right before they head back to the water for some seriously competitive kayak football. Both teams then had some BBQ and would regroup for the next series of kayak games, including kayak water polo, giant beach ball time trials, all with a hefty dose of team rivalry. This was our third year being a part of the VA Summer Sports Clinic, and we are even more stoked now than the first time around! Click 'More' to see the photos.
